Jay L. Monson, O.D.
Dr. Jay Monson is a native of Owatonna, MN and a graduate of Owatonna High School. He did his undergraduate work at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where he received his Bachelors degree in Biology. His professional training was done at the Southern California College of Optometry serving residencies in the VA hospital in Los Angeles, March Air Force Base, Los Angeles Eye Center, Long Beach Naval Station, and the Eye Care Center of SCCO in Fullerton, CA. At SCCO he served as student representative on the admissions committee and President of his graduating class.
He started his optometric career as an associate in a private practice in Owatonna, MN in 1983. In 1985 Dr. Monson started his own practice in Owatonna and expanded to Waseca in 1986. His locations have changed over the years to provide better care for patients and families in the Owatonna and Waseca area.
Dr. Monson is a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Waseca Chamber of Commerce, and the Owatonna Chamber of Commerce. He is past president of the Owatonna Chamber.
Dr. Jay is married to his wife Lois and father to sons Jer, Tom, and Jonathan, daughter Ann and son-in-law James. He enjoys running half-marathons with his children, woodworking, and fishing,
His inspiration to become an Optometrist came from his uncle who practiced in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Dr. Callies has been practicing Optometry for over 13 years. He was born and raised in South Dakota. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Huron University and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He received his doctorate from the University of Houston College where he was a member of the Optometric National Honor Society.
Dr. Callies enjoys spending time with his family, music, and is a big Vikings fan. He is married with three boys. The oldest is attending college in South Dakota, and his twin boys are in the third grade staying busy with sports and music.
